You had to suspect something was awry when they kept on changing their pouring list.
What a damn shame. TG could literally do no wrong in the eyes of the beer geek culturati, so it will be interesting to see how this changes things for them.
My guess is not much to even make a dent, much like Crooked Stave's debacle last year, but it still sucks nonetheless.
The bright side is that the area where their booth was supposed to be will at least be clear of a 300 - 400 snaking line making it much easier to pass.

ReplyDeleteIt's funny you say that as I felt almost the same way. The biggest issue the way it went down was the fact that their first list was INSANE. Any deviation, even the slightest, was going to be perceived as a let down.
ReplyDeleteBut that's the risk with shooting for the moon like they did. Which in hindsight was a huge mistake on their part. They literally went from an insane, unbeatable list, to a great list, to a pretty good list that seemed to change every few days, to not showing up at all.
there was no way I was waiting in that long line JUST for King Sue when I had it last year...I would rather go for newer ticks...I mean beers
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree. But I'm not going to lie and say I wasn't super excited to have their beers. With that said, this year is poised to be the best EBF ever. My only worry is that I have no idea how I'm going to try everything I want to in 4 hours. I realize this sounds ridiculous, but it's true. At least for me, anyway.
ReplyDeletesharing tasters is the way to go. We go in groups of four and we all share the tasters...BOOM!
ReplyDeleteBOOM is right. That's the way to do it. Scrapple beer here we come!!
ReplyDeleteI am shocked max that you didn't think about the divide and conquer method. You don't need a full pour of any beer. A sip or two should be enough. Share it all. Yum.
ReplyDeleteThere's a simple answer, Jim. I'm a glutton. A filthy, dirty, unrepentant glutton.
ReplyDeleteFrom a beer site: There was a thread on BA about this and they deleted it. The bros said TG sent them a list of beers they were "most likely" going to bring (just like every other brewery had). Then that tweet where TG said something along the lines of "I dont know who said we are bringing kbbs to boston, but we are NOT" was posted on the TG twitter, and a few days later kbbs and morning delight were both removed from the ebf list on the BA site. The bros said it was because TG sent them and updated list with the 2 beers removed and reminded everyone that the list is never 100% accurate until the day of the fest.
ReplyDeleteYep, saw that. Here's the other really shitty thing. So, TG released SR-71 to a ton of fan fare as evidenced by the sheer amount of posts either ISO or FT in the trading forums.
ReplyDeleteThat beer was supposed to be at EBF and, while I'm sure they planned to release it anyway, it just looks a littler crappy that they bail on the event then promote the shit out of the release of a beer that was supposed be there.
The conspiracy theorist in me thinks that they realized that they could probably make a shit ton more money just releasing the EBF allocation of stuff like SR-71 vs. bringing it to EBF and probably getting cost for it from the Bros. I'm sure they said, "whoa, we're basically giving this stuff away at both Huna Day and EBF on back to back weekends. We gotta cut one festival loose."
I am with the theorists as well. I am not sure how much the Bros pay for each keg, but look at Against the Grain bringing about 10 beers that will all be paid for. Hoping to finally try dat Bo & Luke
